Roe & Co Distillery is Diageo's Dublin distillery, located in the former Guinness Power Station (the Power House) on Thomas Street, Dublin 8, in the heart of the historic Liberties district. Named in tribute to George Roe, whose Thomas Street Distillery was once the largest whiskey distillery in Britain and Ireland — producing two million gallons per annum at its peak before closing in 1926 — the €25 million distillery began production in June 2017. Roe & Co positions itself as "the home of cocktail exploration and modern Irish whiskey," with the Powerhouse Bar and immersive tasting experiences central to the visitor offer.

[!info] Roe & Co production began in June 2017, not 2019. The 2019 date that sometimes appears relates to a media milestone, not the founding of the operation.

History

The Roe & Co brand was announced by Diageo in 2017. The former Guinness Power Station on Thomas Street had been central to the electricity supply for the St James's Gate brewery but had been decommissioned and stood vacant for years. Diageo invested €25 million in its conversion to a working whiskey distillery, retaining the industrial architectural character of the building while fitting it out with copper pot stills.

Production at the distillery began in June 2017. The brand was named after George Roe, a member of the Roe family dynasty who operated the D. E. Williams & Co Thomas Street Distillery — the largest in Ireland and Britain during the 19th century, when Dublin was a global whiskey capital. The location one block from the original Roe distillery site makes the tribute geographically as well as historically resonant. The distillery has earned a perfect 5.0 TripAdvisor rating.

Production

Roe & Co Distillery operates three copper pot stills and can run both double and triple distillation, providing production flexibility for different spirit profiles. Annual capacity is approximately 500,000 litres. The core product is Roe & Co Blended Irish Whiskey, made from hand-selected stocks of Irish malt and grain whiskies matured in ex-bourbon casks and blended by Master Blender Caroline Martin.

Tasting Character

Roe & Co Blended Irish Whiskey is positioned for modern drinking occasions and cocktail making. The blend draws on hand-selected Irish malt and grain whiskey stocks aged in ex-bourbon oak barrels, delivering a smooth, vanilla-forward, and accessible character with light fruit and gentle spice. The approachable profile makes it versatile across cocktail applications — the distillery's "Beyond the Blend" tasting experience uses this versatility as a teaching tool.
