Ardgowan Distillery
Ardgowan Distillery is Scotland's newest major distillery, officially opened on 20 June 2025 in Inverkip, Inverclyde — a £20 million development whose Nordic longhouse architecture makes it one of the most visually striking new distilleries in Scotland. Strong sustainability credentials are built into every aspect of the design and production process. The distillery introduced the "Infinity Cask", claimed to be the first new cask size formally introduced to the Scotch whisky industry in many years, designed for long-term premium maturation. The first cask was filled at the opening ceremony on 20 June 2025 and public tours began on 12 August 2025.

History
Ardgowan Distillery was developed over several years by Distil plc, a company focused on building new distilleries in Scotland. The site in Inverkip, on the Firth of Clyde coast of Inverclyde, was selected for its access to quality Inverclyde water and its position within a landscape connected to the Ardgowan Estate. The £20 million project resulted in a landmark building combining working distillery, visitor facilities, and an emphasis on environmental responsibility. The official opening ceremony on 20 June 2025 included the filling of the first Infinity Cask — a novel format the distillery has positioned as central to its premium, long-maturation whisky programme. Public tours commenced on 12 August 2025 and an on-site shop opened alongside them. An online shop was not yet available as of early 2026.
Production
The distillery uses Inverclyde water, consistent with the region's soft, low-mineral water profile. Specific still sizes, still count, and annual capacity have not yet been publicly disclosed. The Infinity Cask — a novel cask size positioned for luxury long-maturation — is a distinctive production innovation. Highland-influenced style is the stated ambition for the spirit character. As of April 2026, all spirit is in its early maturation phase.

Tasting Character
The first casks were filled in June 2025, meaning no aged whisky expressions will be available before 2028 at the earliest. The distillery intends a Highland-influenced style, drawing on Inverclyde water and traditional copper pot distillation.

Visiting
Tours run twice daily, Tuesday–Saturday, at 10:30 and 14:00. Each 90-minute experience includes a guided tour of the distillery and warehouse plus a tutored tasting of three whiskies from the portfolio. Book at ardgowandistillery.com/visit-us. The on-site shop is open Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–17:00, stocking the Clydebuilt range. No online shop is currently available.
